The Current Extrusion Database

The Extrusion Database was developed to move a current paper based system onto a database platform which they could then runs enquiries against. This was originally developed using Microsoft Access so that they would be able to run new reports whenever necessary and also be able to do maintenance on the system with relative ease. This is now being redeveloped using far more robust programming methods.

The overall look of the system is strictly dictated by the previous paper based reporting, and also the actual recording methods of the users. This is why the unusual dartboard type graphic has been used (shown below).

Due to the stringent Quality Control process the system is currently holding approximately 20000 records, which had been recorded over a period of two years. The standard entry screen is shown below.

Within the scope of the Quality Control process at Huhtamaki it is necessary to weigh and measure the thickness of the product to ensure that it meets industry standards. The setup for these is shown below.

The New Extrusion Database

The updated Extrusion QC Database is shown below. A key aspect to its success is it exact replication in appearrance and usability of the original Extrusion Database.

The New Extrusion QC Database, however, has much greater reliability, stability and flexibility. The system has also been welcomed by the Extrusion Operators, who themselves had began to see cracks in the old software

As before the QC software interacts seemlessly with the Caliper and Scale used in the checking process, as outlined within the original project brief.

The new software has been welcomed warmly and it is hoped that it will help Huhtamaki in their pursuit of excellence.
